With your QuickbooksTM file open
- Go to the File Menu
- Click on “Save copy or backup”

- Check the appropriate radio button for Backup Copy
- Click next


- Now you need to tell QuickBooks where to save the back up. Click the Options box

- Click Browse and find the location for your backup – Flash Drive, Portable Hard Drive etc.
- Click OK

If you select the same location as your working file QuickBooks™ will give you an error message – select change location or use this locationTip: Ensure regular backups are not kept on the same computer/hard drive as your working file
- Click Finish
- Check that your backup works:
- Restoring the file to a separate location
- Compare the restored file to the original file
- If it matches your backup is good
- Backup at least weekly and keep one for each week of the month
- I also recommend keeping a backup for each month
